Abstract

1404791 Bagging apparatus UNION CARBIDE CORP 22 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 38993/72 Heading B8C Stacked bags 45 having a lower ply provided with wicket holes 63 and an upper ply clear of the holes are held on a wicket 55, are sequentially opened by means of an air stream from a blower 17 having a nosepiece 23, are filled manually with meat articles 21 guided by a pair of assemblies 31, and are torn from the wicket and removed via rollers 43. The guide assemblies 31 each comprise an arm 37 pivoted at one end on a spring loaded shaft 41 and connected at the other end to two blades 33, 35, blade 33 being pivotable upwardly about a pin assembly 39. The blower 17, nosepiece 23 and guide assemblies 31 are mounted on a housing 13 which is pivoted on horizontal trunnions 15 and is counterbalanced by weights 71. The housing 13 can be pivoted upwardly by means of a cam 77 to allow the stack of bags 45 to be replenished. The wicket 55 is held in a socket boss 51 having an array of sockets 53 to accommodate wickets of assorted widths.
