1404764 Half-tone flexographic printing block SMURFIT Ltd 20 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 49762/71 Heading G2M A flexographic block for printing an image corresponding to a continuous tone original is prepared by (1) using the original image to form a screened photographic positive or negative in which at least part of the screen pattern is in the form of either (a) substantially discrete elongate elements (e.g. straight lines, concentric circles or wavy lines), or (b) an irregular pattern of solidshaped elements (e.g. dots or a stipple effect); (2) using this to produce a first block bearing a relief-image of the image to be printed; and (3) using the first block to produce the flexographic printing block. Step (3) may be effected by making an impression of the first block in a thermosetting plastics material and using this to mould the flexographic block.
