Abstract

1404334 Companders DOLBY LABORATORIES Inc 18 July 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 33646/72 Heading H4R A switchable compressor/expander has an adding network 51A in a main path between an input and an output and a further path 26, including a signal limiting circuit which is preferably of the type disclosed in Specification 1,279,634, providing a further input to the adding network and whose input is switchable between an inverter 52A connected to the input, to provide an expander, or the output 53, to provide a compressor. A further adding network 61B can be fed from the input and output of the further path 26 to form an expander which is fed with a compressed signal in the recording condition to provide a linear monitoring output. The use of the further adding network is the subject of Specification 1,404,333.
