Abstract

1404216 Hinges; window mountings HAPPICH GmbH Gebr 9 Nov 1972 [25 Nov 1971 (2) 10 Aug 1972] 51694/72 Headings E2F and E2M [Also in Division B7] A window which is openable into any one of a plurality of positions comprises a frame 1 and a window unit 2 and two flat leaf springs 5 on each of two opposing sides, whose ends are attached respectively to the frame and the window unit, the distance between the respective points of attachment 9, 10 of each spring being less than the free unstressed length of the spring in all positions of the window unit, so that the springs tend to maintain the unit in the closed position or in one of the open positions. The springs are the sole connection between the frame and the window unit, which may be a roof light in a vehicle. The unit may be moved bodily (position a) or may be tilted about any of its edges (e.g. positions b and c). The degree of opening is limited by stops 11 which may be adjustable. Alternatively, Fig 4 (not shown), the attachment points on the unit may be in a recess (18) on a handle (16), a wall 19 of the recess serving to limit movement. Or each leaf spring may have curved ends received in curved slots in sockets on the window unit and be covered by an elastic sleeve, possibly with coil springs at each end.
