Abstract

1404142 Apparatus for handling rod-like articles such as cigarettes MOLINS Ltd 21 July 1972 39407/73 Divided out of 1404141 Heading B8C The subject-matter of this Specification is identified with that described with reference to Figs. 17-24 of the parent Specification 1,404,141, but the claims are concerned with an article handling system comprising means for producing said articles, means for packing said articles, first means for conveying said articles toward said packing means, storage means for said articles, second means for conveying said articles between said storage means and said packing means, and means for driving both said feed means so that said articles are conveyed, as a stream, toward, or away from, said storage means according to the operating conditions of said article producing means and article packing means. The storage means includes transfer means to insert portions of said stream of articles into a container for storage whilst said stream is fed towards said storage means or, remove said portions from said container to reform said stream whilst said stream is fed away from said storage means, the drive means being arranged to operate the two feed means so that the stream of articles is conveyed towards, or away from, said storage means.
