Abstract
1404013 Tunneling machines ANDERSON MAVOR LTD 9 July 1973 [26 July 1972] 34917/72 Heading E1F In a tunneling machine of the type in which a pivotally mounted boom 3 carrying a cutting head (6 or 7) extends from a tubular shield 5 and a ramp 8 for cut material leads up to a conveyor 4, the boom carries a feed device 9 for moving material up the ramp which comprises at least one motor driven feeding element (17) moving in an endless path about an axis transverse to the axis of the boom. As shown two electric motors 12 drive a chain 16 to which blades 17 are attached, the motors may be at the front or the rearof the feed device and may be electric, alternatively only one motor may be used. The feed device may comprises a rotary paddle device or two such devices one on each side of the boom. The booms movement is controlled by hydraulic rams and is telescopic and/or displaceable fore-and-aft. To direct the motion of the boom a follower 19 engages an annular cam 18 on the shield-the cam is in three sections, only the outer two sections are shown.
