Abstract

1403898 Boots &c FAMOLARE INC 24 Oct 1972 [3 March 1972] 49077/72 Heading A3B A backless clog for a predetermined foot size includes a rigid upper 11 and a rigid bottom unit 12 which together have the appearance of a one-piece "wooden" shoe and which define a foot receiving space which is larger than said predetermined foot size, and a foam liner 31 secured to the inner surface of the upper 11 which reduces the foot receiving space so that the clog fits the predetcrmined foot size and is held snugly on the foot. The upper 11 and bottom unit 12 may be formed as a single component or may be made separately and joined by a flush joint 13 to give the appearance of a one-piece shoe. They may be carved from wood or may be injection moulded from plastics material. The liner 31 is made from polyurethane foam and is formed as a bell shaped blank which has a leather collar 33 along one edge and a line of stitching 32 along its other edges to reduce the thickness at the edges. The blank is larger in area than the inner surface of the upper 11 and is folded before insertion into the upper 11 to which it is bonded by adhesive 42. When in position in the upper 11 the liner 31 has a longitudinal crease 37 bounded by two pillows 38, 39 which define a "keyhole" shaped opening 35 for the foot. The foot is inserted into the opening 35 at an angle to the horizontal and is then turned to its correct position, thus locking the clog onto the foot.
