Abstract
1403624 Dispensing liquids AKZO NV 5 Sept 1972 [6 Sept 1971 (2)] 41148/72 Heading G1W [ Also in Division F2] A device for dispensing a predetermined weight of a liquid from a reservoir 5 into a can 12 comprises a dispensing device 10 which allows the liquid to run into the can at diminishing flow rates in successive stages under the control of weighing device 1, the weighing device 1 causing the flow of liquid to be cut off completely when the predetermined weight is reached, the total weight the can should have after dispensation of the predetermined weight of liquid being set on the weighing device by riders 23, 24, 25 moving on guides 20, 21, 22. A variety of liquids are contained in reservoirs 5 mounted on a turret 4, and the correct reservoir 5 is brought automatically into position over can 12 when the operator presses the appropriate button on control 27. As the turret 4 rotates, a stirrer in each reservoir is rotated by means of a pinion 9 meshing with a gear wheel 6. The operator then adjusts the positions of the three riders 23, 24 and 25 along beams 20, 21 and 22 to set the hundreds, tens and units respectively of the weight. The dispensing device is controlled by means of a lever 13 actuated by a sliding rod 14, which is controlled electromagnetically by the control 27 and the weighing device 1. To dispense the liquid, a button on control 27 is pressed, and liquid is fed into can 12 at a high rate. When a first predetermined weight is still to be dispensed, the balance provides a first signal, and the liquid is then dispensed at a medium rate. When a second predetermined weight is still to be dispensed, the balance provides a second signal, and the liquid is then dispensed at a low rate. When the desired weight is reached, a third signal provided by the balance cuts off the liquid feed. The signals may be provided from the balance by photo-electric means or magnetic means. The device may be used to dispense successively into a can 12 the ingredients required to form a can full of paint. To aid setting of the riders 23, 24, 25 for the successive liquids, a chart may be provided showing the rider positions Fig.9 (not shown). Each beam 20-22 has a distinctive appearance by virtue of colour, hatching, cross-sectional shape or imprint, and the corresponding section of the chart has a corresponding appearance. Fig.2 shows a form of the dispensing device. Valve member 39 is slidable in cylinder 37 and is coupled to the cylinder 37 by a pin 46 engaging slots in the cylinder 37 Figs.5, 6 (not shown). When lever 13 is operated, member 39 is raised and slides relative to cylinder 37 by virtue of the pin 46 sliding in the slots to open the smaller valve opening 40. If the lever 13 is moved further, the pin 46 engages the ends of the slots and lifts cylinder 37 and the associated valve member 31 to also open the valve opening provided by the mouth of sleeve 30. The first two flow rates are provided by different openings of the outer valve.
