Wood, treating with liquids.-In modified apparatus for carrying out the process of impregnating logs claimed in the parent Specification, an annular disk-head h, with a circular cutting-edge h<1> forming a seating h<2> for a rubber or like packing-washer h<3>, is interposed between the recessed surface of the cylindrical body f and the end of the log, so as to form a tight joint to resist the pressure of the liquids delivered to the pivoted cylinder e. Fig. 2 shows also the means for clamping the end of a log i of medium diameter to the apparatus, the clamp consisting of a ring 1 having screw-operated radially sliding gripping-shoes 3 for gripping the log, and bolts 5 for securing it to the flange f<2> of the body f. Logs of large diameter are secured to the apparatus by the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, comprising hooked bolts 8, rods 9 engaging therewith, and rods 11 with adjustable spiked claws 12 engaging the end of the log, the ends of the rods 9, 11 threading into tightening- sleeves 10. For logs of great length and small diameter, such as telegraph poles, the head h, as shown in Fig. 4, is extended to form a sleeve h<4> in which the end of the log is engaged, and the clamping-arrangement comprises hooked bolts 8, cables or rods 13, collar 15 with hooks 14, 17 screwed rods 18, 20, spiked claws 21, and tightening-sleeves 19.
