Abstract

1403500 Portable vessels J B ULAM 16 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12708/73 Heading A4A [Also in Division B3] Cup-shaped portions 22, 30, Fig. 1, both drawn from blank sheet metal, e.g. stainless steel/aluminium composite, are nested together to form a vessel. A heating element 40, Fig. 3 may be interposed between the two portions before bonding and a heat insulating material placed between the element and portion 30. The bonding may include brazing or welding methods, e.g. electron beam welding in a vacuum to form an hermetically sealed region 20. The bonded portions can either be immersed in an electrolyte for anodizing of the aluminium at surface 10, or the surface 10 can be porcelain enamel coated, in order to colour the outside of the vessel. A bracket 12 is attached to portion 22 by riveting or spot welding, followed by the attachment of a handle 16 using a bolt 18. Alternatively, a spacer (46), Fig. 6 (not shown), and handle (48) may be secured via a bolt (50). The handle may be detachable and incorporate an electrical connector for the heating element, a temperature sensing probe, and a temperature selection dial.
