Abstract

1403097 Ear plugs of polymeric foam NATIONAL RESEARCH CORP 24 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 48899/72 Heading C3C [Also in Divisions A5 and H4] A 7/16 to 1 inch long substantially cylindrical earplug 3 having a diameter between # and ¥ inch is made of a resilient polymeric foam having a recovery time from 60% to 40% compression of 1 to 60 seconds and an equilibrium pressure at 40% compression of 0À2 to 1À3 p.s.i. The polymeric foam may be formed from a polyvinyl chloride plastisol composition having an aromatic polyester plasticizer, epoxidized soya bean oil; azodicarbonamide, antimony trioxide and/or calciumcarbonate. An earphone is formed by boring through the earplug 3, a # inch diameter hole for receiving the tip 5 of a sound tube 7. The foam may be compressed.
