Abstract

1402386 Electric protective systems BODENSEEWERK GERATETECHNIK GmbH 7 Sept 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 42226/73 Heading H2K A protective circuit for a voltage regulated power supply includes an optical coupler comprising a radiation sensitive element 24 and a co-operating radiation emitter 26; the emitter being energizable by the output voltage of the power supply and the element 24 is arranged to inhibit the output of the power supply if radiation from the emitter 26 ceases. The emitter 26 is a luminescent diode and the element 24 is a phototransistor. Voltage regulation is effected by a differential amplifier 10 using a reference voltage from a source 14. The supply includes a bridge rectifier 1 fed from a transformer secondary 4 which has other secondaries 5, (6, Fig. 2, not shown), feeding other supply lines arranged, on voltage drop, to short circuit the emitter 26 by a transistor 50 or diode 46 and since the control amplifiers 42, 40 of these supplies receive their reference voltages from the supply through transistor 18 these supplies are also interrupted when the first mentioned power supply is inhibited. When the photo transistor 24 ceases to conduct the amplifier 10 is saturated and charges a capacitor 28 until a Schottky diode 32 breaks down to turn transistor 16 on to make transistor 18 reconnect the supply which will be maintained if the fault is no longer present so that the emitter 26 operated the photo transistor 24.
