Abstract

1402161 Pneumatic thread control and cutting UNION SPECIAL MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 6 Oct 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 46095/72 Heading D1G Air flow aligning thread with the cutting device of a sewing machine is controlled by two devices, one, a pedal operated switch 9, being controlled by the starting and stopping of the machine while the other is controlled by a photo resistor 21 responsive to the position of work being sewn. Resistor 21 is illuminated from a reflector when no work is behind the stitching position and transistors 22 and 23 are thereby switched on and off respectively. On engagement of the machine drive clutch switch 9 closes to supply a delay circuit 26. Transistor 27 now switches on to energise solenoid valve 14 to allow air to flow until the work edge passes beyond the stitching point to interrupt the illumination of resistor 21 to switch off transistor 22. Transistor 23 now conducts to remove the input to the gate 26. Transistor 27 is thereby switched off and valve 14 deenergised to stop the air flow, which cannot now be reestablished until the work has moved from under the needle and beyond the photo electric device. A further transistor 33 is fed from the same controlling supply as transistor 27 and controls the operation of cutter 34 which thus operates only at the beginning and end of a sewing process. It is stated that pneumatic members could replace the electrical members.
