Abstract

An embroidering machine having an embroidering frame therein which is adjustably mounted for vertical and horizontal movement in the frame of the machine. The vertical and horizontal movement of the embroidering frame is accomplished by stepping motors connected to the embroidering frame to synchronized stepping motors effecting the movement of the embroidering frame in both the vertical and the horizontal directions.

The vertical adjusting movement is effected by the carriages which by means ofa roller act upon the upper spar of the embroidering frame, whereas the horizontal adjusting movement is effected by a control bar which by means of a cross head acts upon a guiding rail connected to a side spar of the embroidering frame.
Shuttle embroidering machines of this type are known. For purposes of driving the embroidering It is, therefore, an object of the presentinvention to I provide a shuttle embroidering machine of the .above mentioned general type which will permit considerably to increase the speed of such machine without requiring'major structural changes.
This object and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear more clearlyfrom the following specification, in connection 'with the accompanying drawing illustrating a front view of the shuttle embroidering machine according to the invention, while for the sake of clarity all parts not directly pertaining to the invention have been omitted.
The embroidering machine according to the present invention in which the embroidering frame is adjustably mounted on two carriages vertically displaceable in the machine frame in horizontal and vertical direction in conformity with a predetermined program while the vertical displacement movement is effected by the carriages engaging the upper spar of the embroidering frame by'means of a roller and while the horizontal adjusting movement is effected by a control rod which by means of a cross head acts upon a guide rail on a lateral spar of the embroidering frame, is characterized primarily in that both carriages are equipped with a drive of their own and that both lateral spars of the embroidering frame are respectively driven by a drive, and is furthermore characterized in that the drives are synchronized in pairs. In view of the drive on both sides of the embroidering frame by means of drives synchronized in pairs, an increase in output of about 40 percent is obtained. This considerable increase is due to the movement of the two embroidering frame ends which is effected free from delays over the heretofore customary unilateral drive and is also due in particular to the positive clam ping-in of the embroidering frame as it results from the drive at both sides. As a result thereof, with the long length of the embroidering frame, oscillations of the embroidering frame are greatly reduced, which oscillations heretofore limited the embroidering output.
According to a preferred embodiment of the shuttle embroidering machine according to the invention,
each drive comprises a hydraulic stepping motor which, through the intervention of a transmission, acts by means of a pinion upon a gear rack which is connected to the carriage and the control rod. This embodiment employs drives which are relatively inexpen sive and easy to synchronize so that the additional expense for the drive on both sides is reduced to a minimum.
In order to prevent the forming of transverse oscillations in any case, according to a further feature of the invention, the adjustability of the control rods in the longitudinal central plane of the embroidery frame is transmitted to the lateral spars. To this end, the guiding rails are centrally arranged on the end face of the lateral spars.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the shuttle embroidering machine illustrated in the drawing comprises a machine frame 1 which is composed primarily of vertical frame supports 1a and horizontal frame supports lb. Adjustably guided in horizontal and vertical direction on said machine frame 1 is an embroidering frame 2 which has two lateral spars 2b which by means of an upper spar 2a and a lower spar 2c are connected to each other. The upper spar 2a protrudes laterally beyond the lateral spars 2b.
The embroidering frame 2 is mounted by means of rollers 4 upon those parts of the upper spar 2a which protrude beyond the lateral spars 2b, said rollers being rotatably mounted on carriages 3. The carriages 3 are respectively displaceable in vertical direction in an outer frame support 1a. The displacement ofeach carriage3 is effected by a rack 5 which is driven by a pinion 6a of a transmission 6 by means of a stepping motor 7.
1 The two stepping motors 7 are synchronized with regard to each other so that the racks 5 and thereby both ends of the embroidering frame 2 are simultaneously adjusted in vertical direction by the same distance. In view of the interposition of rollers 4, the embroidering frame 2 is adjustable in horizontal direction independently of its vertical position.
The horizontal adjusting movement is effective by two stepping motors 8 which respectively, through the intervention of a pinion 9a of a transmission 9, act upon a rack 10 which latter is connected to a control rod 1 1. Each control rod llis, in its turn, provided with a cross head 12 which is vertically displaceably arranged on a guiding rail 13.
The horizontal adjusting movement of the control rods 11 which, in view of the synchronization of the stepping motors 8, is directed in the same direction is thus transferred to the lateral spars 2b of the embroidering frame 2. The cross head 12 makes it possible independently of the horizontal adjusting movement to effect an adjustment of the embroidering frame 2 in vertical direction so that vertical and horizontal adjusting movement can superimpose each other.
The drawing also shows the main shaft 14 of the shuttle embroidering machine which main shaft also drives a reading device 15. This reading device 15 feels or senses a perforated band 16 which contains the orders for controlling the stepping motor 7 as well as for a vertical adjustment and for the stepping motors 8 for the horizontal adjustment. The information of the reading device 15 is, through a control device 17, conveyed to the stepping motors 7 and 8.
ln view of the direct drive of both carriages by a stepping motor 7 each, an absolutely synchronized movement of the embroidering frame 2 in vertical direction is obtained. The drive of both lateral spars 2b of the embroidering frame 2 by one stepping motor 8 each, will not only assure the synchronization of the horizontal adjusting movement, but in addition thereto will bring about a positive clamping of the embroidering frame 2 by the horizontal adjusting drives so that longitudinal as well as transverse oscillations of the embroidering frame 2 will be prevented.
In order to avoid the initiation of transverse oscillations in the embroidering frame 2, guiding rails 13 are connected to the end face of the spars 2b in such a way that the initiation of the horizontal adjusting forces is effected along the longitudinal central plane of the embroidering frame 2.
It is, of course, to be understood that the present invention is, by no means, limited to the specific showing in the drawing, but also comprises any modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In an embroidering machine operable by drive on both sides for middle force transfer in a quiet, vibration-free and oscillation-free movement horizontally and vertically for output increased by 40 percent and more: a machine frame, an embroidering frame disposed vertically in said machine frame, said embroidering frame including spar means at the top having downwardly facing horizontal regions on the bottom, roller means supportingly engaging said horizontal regions of said spar means, first means in said machine frame supporting said roller means for vertical adjustability in said machine frame thereby to move said embroidering frame vertically in said machine frame, at least one horizontal control rod in said machine frame engaging at least one end of said embroidering frame, said means in said machine frame operatively engaging said control rod and operable for moving said control rod horizontally thereby to move said embroidering frame horizontally in said machine frame, said control rod being provided at each end of said embroidering frame, crosshead means slidably connecting the end of each control rod adjacent said embroidering frame relative to the control rods upon vertical movement of said roller means, the improvement in combination therewith which comprises a first drive means respectively for each roller means and a second drive means respectively for each control rod, said first drive means being synchronized with each other in a paired manner and said second drive means being synchronized with each other in a paired manner.
2. An embroidering machine in combination according to claim- 1, in which each drive means comprises electrically-controlled hydraulic stepping motor means, a geared transmission connecting each motor means with the respective roller means respectively control rod driven thereby, each said transmission including a pinion driven by the respective motor means and a rack meshing therewith and connected to the respective roller means respectively control rod driven by the said motor means.
3. An embroidering machine in combination according to claim 1, said embroidering frame including vertical end spar members, said control rods being disposed in about the central plane of said embroidering frame and acting on said spar members, a vertical rail fixed to the outer side of each end spar member, each control rod having the end nearest said embroidering frame slidably engaging the adjacent said rail.
4. An embroidering machine according to claim 3, in which said rails are centrally located on said end spar member.

Claims (4)

1. In an embroidering machine operable by drive on both sides for middle force transfer in a quiet, vibration-free and oscillation-free movement horizontally and vertically for output increased by 40 percent and more: a machine frame, an embroidering frame disposed vertically in said machine frame, said embroidering frame including spar means at the top having downwardly facing horizontal regions on the bottom, roller means supportingly engaging said horizontal regions of said spar means, first means in said machine frame supporting said roller means for vertical adjustability in said machine frame thereby to move said embroidering frame vertically in said machine frame, at least one horizontal control rod in said machine frame engaging at least one end of said embroidering frame, said means in said machine frame operatively engaging said control rod and operable for moving said control rod horizontally thereby to move said embroidering frame horizontally in said machine frame, said control rod being provided at each end of said embroidering frame, crosshead means slidably connecting the end of each control rod adjacent said embroidering frame relative to the control rods upon vertical movement of said roller means, the improvement in combination therewith which comprises a first drive means respectively for each roller means and a second drive means respectively for each control rod, said first drive means being synchronized with each other in a paired manner and said second drive means being synchronized with each other in a paired manner.
2. An embroidering machine in combination according to claim 1, in which each drive means comprises electrically-controlled hydraulic stepping motor means, a geared transmission connecting each motor means with the respective roller means respectively control rod driven thereby, each said transmission including a pinion driven by the respective motor means and a rack meshing therewith and connected to the respective roller means respectively control rod driven by the said motor means.
3. An embroidering machine in combination according to claim 1, said embroidering frame including vertical end spar members, said control rods being disposed in about the central plane of said embroidering frame and acting on said spar members, a vertical rail fixed to the outer side of each end spar member, each control rod having the end nearest said embroidering frame slidably engaging the adjacent said rail.
4. An embroidering machine according to claim 3, in which said rails are centrally located on said end spar member.
