Abstract
1402086 Semi-conductor devices STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 21 March 1974 12537/74 Heading H1K [Also in Division G4] An array of n x m light emissive diodes, or light emissive diode sets, has a two co-ordinate addressing system having first and second sets of n and m conductors respectively, wherein one terminal connection of each diode, or diode set, is connected via an individual one of a first set of n x m identical resistors to an individual one of the first set of n conductors, and is connected via an individual one of a second set of n x m identical resistors to an individual one of the second set of m conductors, the connections being arranged such that each diode, or diode set, is ascribed a unique co-ordinate pair, and wherein the other terminal connections of the diodes, or diode sets, are commoned. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment with a linear array of GaAsP diodes 1-25. In the monolithic embodiment of Fig. 2, p-type regions 40 are diffused into an n-type GaAsP chip. Aluminium column and row conductor tracks 42, 43 (insulated at the cross-overs) and nickel-chrome alloy thin film resistor patterns 41 are deposited. The resistor patterns 41 terminate in pads 44 which make connection with the conductor tracks 42, 43, and have centre taps 46 connected to the P- type regions 40.
