Abstract

1401910 Sample extraction method and apparatus GREINER ELECTRONIC AG 13 June 1973 [14 June 1972] 28202/73 Heading G1B [Also in Division F1] Liquid (e.g. a blood sample) in a vessel 2 is extracted from the vessel by a method comprising bringing an opening in extraction member 5 to a position immediately above the surface of the liquid but without touching the liquid, producing low pressure at the opening so that liquid flows through the opening into member 5 and lowering member 5 at the same speed as the speed at which the liquid level in vessel 2 falls, so that flow of liquid into member 5 continues while the outside surface of the member remains uncontaminated. The apparatus may comprise cam 6 operating cam follower rod 4, rod 4 being spring-loaded upwardly and having suction tube 5 secured to it. Vessels 2 may be conveyed past the device. The vessels may be immersed in thermostat bath 1.
