Abstract
1401520 Pivoted armature transducers BELL NORTHERN RESEARCH Ltd 28 Dec 1972 [12 Jan 1972] 59793/72 Heading H4J In a pivoted armature transducer such as described in Specification 1,379,372 the central portion of a peripherally fixed diaphragm 12 (Fig. 2) is linked to an armature 20 by a flexible linkage bar 100 having a reinforcing formation 102 (see also Figs. 3A, 3B, 3C) along its central portion to provide a relatively rigid central portion and flexible end portions. One flexible end portion is spot welded to an armature extension 23 normal to the armature 20. The other flexible end portion is attached, e.g. by epoxy adhesive 15, to the centre of the diaphragm 12. Longitudinal motion along the flexible linkage bar 100 is coupled between the diaphragm 12 and the armature 20. Associated lateral movement induced by pivoting action of the armature 20 is substantially absorbed by the flexible end portions of the linkage bar 100. The flexible end portions assist in providing a relatively linear frequency response, e.g. in the range 2800 Hz to 3300 Hz. The linkage bar 100 is formed from copper beryllium alloy sheet stock. The armature 20 is a one-piece structure formed from sheet stock having a high magnetic permeability and comprises a body portion 21 (see Fig. 3B) having two broad end portions tapering to a narrower central portion. A lightening hole 26 is provided. A narrow projection in the plane of the armature. carries the armature extension 23. A pair of torsion bars 22 extend laterally to a pair of support arms 24 (Fig. 3C) extending about the length of the body portion 21. The support arms 24 have U-shaped brass spacers 25. The brass spacers 25 enclose the arms 24 and are clamped between pole faces 72, 74 of U-shaped portions of a pair of magnetic polepieces 71, 73 (see Fig. 2). The brass spacers 25 define the size of the air gaps between the pole faces 72, 74 and the ends of the armature body 21 to permit pivoting of the armature body 21 upon the torsion bars 22. The polepieces 71, 73 are fed from a cylindrical permanent magnet 75.
