Abstract

1401505 Frequency to voltage converters KNORR BREMSE GmbH 10 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 52133/72 Heading H3A A frequency to voltage converter comprises a first circuit 1-5 for producing a first intermediate signal Uc whose magnitude is at a given point of each cycle of the input signal proportional to the duration of the last preceding such cycle, a second circuit 6, 7 responsive to the signal Uc to produce a second intermediate signal Usp whose magnitude is maintained equal or proportional to the magnitude of Uc at the given point in the relevant input cycle, a third circuit 8, 9 responsive to the signal Usp to produce a pulse train having a pulse duration proportional to the magnitude of Usp and an Rc circuit 11, 12 connected to receive the pulse train to produce an output voltage proportional to the input frequency. In operation, a first monostable circuit 1 is responsive to the trailing edge of an input signal Uf to produce a pulse U 1 which renders an FET6 conducting during its pulse duration to transfer the peak voltage of Uc stored at capacitor 4 to another capacitor 7. A second monostable circuit 2 is responsive to the trailing edge of pulse U 1 to produce a further pulse of short duration to quickly discharge the capacitor 4 via a switch 3. The capacitor 4 starts charging again via a current source 5. A monostable multivibrator 9 has its output repetition rate controlled by an astable multivibrator 8 and its output mark to space ratio controlled by the voltage Usp via a voltage to current converter 10. If the input signal fails or its frequency falls below an acceptable value, the charge voltage across capacitor 4 increases and the circuitry 22-30 act in such a manner to increase the voltage Usp to a limiting value so that the final output Ua falls sufficiently low for activating an anti-skid control system in a vehicle whose wheel speed is being measured.
