Abstract

1401065 Coating agent formed by alcoholysis of polyesters ERNST JAGER FABRIK CHEMISCHER ROHSTOFFE GmbH 10 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 52131/72 Heading C3R In a method of manufacturing a coating agent, a polyester formed from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, particularly terephthalic acid and a glycol, particularly ethylene glycol is broken down by alcoholysis at 180- 280‹ C. with the addition of polyols and is polycondensed by further heating, a fatty acid or a derivative thereof being added after the alcoholysis. Preferred polyols are trimethylol propane, polypropylene glycol, neopentyl glycol, butane diol 1 : 4, glycerine and pentaerythritol. Preferred fatty acids are soya bean fatty acid and recinic acid. In addition to the fatty acid or derivative a component of an aromatic or aliphatic polyester or its anhydride may be added, e.g. phthalic anhydride and benzoic acid if desired in the presence of hypophosphorous acid. Examples describe the alcoholysis of polyethylene terephthalate and copolymers thereof with polyethylene adipate.
