Abstract

1400892 Coloured contact lenses TANABE SEIYAKU CO Ltd 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21711/73 Heading C3P A coloured contact lens formed from a methacrylic polymer material is produced by copolymerizing at least one methacrylic ester with at least one reactive dyestuff having a substituent of the formula wherein R is hydrogen or methyl; A is - NHCO-, -OCO-, -O-, -NH(CH 2 )n<SP>1</SP>- wherein the interger n<SP>1</SP> is from 1 to 4, or a group of the formula wherein X is -NH-, -NHCH 2 - or -CONH-, Y is -COO- or -NHCO-, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or carboxy and m and m<SP>1</SP> are 0 or 1; and n is 0 or 1, on the nucleus of an anthraquinone, xanthene, triphenylmethane or azo dye, or a salt thereof, moulding the resulting methacrylic polymer material and polishing the product. In the examples ethylene glycol monomethacrylate, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, sodium 1 -amino-4-(3-vinylphenylamino) - 9,10 - anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonate, methyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, 1 - amino - 4 - (3 - acryloylamidophenylamino)- 9,10-anthraquinone, diglycol monomethacrylate, diglycol dimethacrylate, 1-(o-tolylazo)-2 naphthol acrylate, triethylene glycol monomethacrylate, 3<SP>11</SP>-vinyl-malachite green, 4 - methacryloylamidorhodamine B, 1 - (pphenylaminophenylazo) - 3 - (m - vinylphenylaminocarbonyl) - 2 - naphthol, sodium 1 amino - 4 - vinyloxyethylamino - 9,10 - anthraquinone - 2 - sulphonate, 1 - methacryloylamidoanthraquinone, 1 -methacryloylamido-4- aminoanthraquinone, 1 -amino-4-(3-methacryloylamidophenylamino) - 9,10 - anthraquinone, 1 - (o - tolylazo) - naphthylmethacryloylamide and 4-vinylbenzoylamido-rhodamine are copolymerized in the presence of ammonium persulphate, water, α,α<SP>1</SP>-azobisisobutyronitrile, polymethyl methacrylate and potassium persulphate.
