Abstract
1400677 Brakes; boosters DBA SA 10 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 22373/73 Headings F2E and F2F A booster device 10 located between a master cylinder 12 and brake cylinder 14 is connected to a spring loaded energy accumulator 26 by means of a linkage assembly 24 operative to provide a boosted pressure to the brake cylinder 14 when the master cylinder pressure is above a predetermined level. Below this level fluid passes directly to brake cylinder 14 via a non- return valve 126 and passes from an inlet 18 of a booster 16 to an outlet 20 via a chamber 42, a clearance 46 between a rod 28 and a drive member 40 and a chamber 44. Above the predetermined level a piston 34 is moved leftwardly against the bias of a spring 60 entraining, through a sleeve 36, rod 28 a shoulder 50 of which engages a seal 48 to close communication between chambers 42 and 44. Rod 28, being coupled to accumulator 26 via a bell crank lever 74 and link 86 of assembly, causes a pivot 84 between link 86 and lever 74 to traverse the connecting line between pivots 88 and 96 respectively of lever 74 and link 86. A roller 90 is then caused to move along a surface 92 of booster housing 22 under the bias of the spring 104 of accumulator 26 whereby a force is applied to rod 28 via linkage assembly 24 thereby causing pressurization of fluid in a chamber 44 through driving member 40 to provide a boosted pressure to brake cylinder 14. Reverse flow via a line 124 to the master cylinder is prevented by non-return valve 126. The device is initially set by a bolt 116 which co-operates with a nut 118 fixed to the booster housing 22 and which urges rod 28 to the right by wall of a ball 120 fixed to the rod by a sleeve 122.
