Abstract

1400568 Energy absorbing device TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 31 Oct 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 50195/72 Heading F2E [Also in Division B7] A rectangular metal frame member 1, particularly for a vehicle frame, includes a bent portion 3 and, mounted on opposed inner walls of the member in the region of the portion 3, a number of energy absorbing members 5, 6. One form of energy absorbing member, Fig. 2, consists of a steel bowl 7a having flanges 8, 9 for attachment to the frame member walls, and further raised flanges 12, 13. Another such member (Fig. 6, not shown) has a double innerouter bowl structure. A still further form of energy absorbing member, Fig. 7, has attachment flanges 21, 22 and a raised flat projection 16.
