Abstract

1400176 Drawing; rolling mills BEKAERT SA NV 14 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 33154/72 Headings B3P and B3M [Also in Division G3] A wire drawing machine or rolling mill comprises a plurality of reducing stations through which the workpiece is successively passed and each of which is powered by a D.C. motor M1-Mn having its armature connected in parallel to the other motor armatures, and means G1-Gn for controlling the currents through the motor armatures in dependence on the sum of the voltages across the armatures, detected by means Ol-On, so as to maintain the sum of the motor speeds constant and a linear relationship between the motor torques. In the embodiment described, drawing blocks W1-Wn for drawing wire through dies T1- Tn are driven by D.C. motors M1-Mn connected to voltage transformers O1-On, which are connected together in series so as to sense and sum the voltages across the armatures of the motors M1-Mn. The difference between a constant voltage UR and the summation voltage output is fed via rectifier circuits G1-Gn to regulate the current in the motor armatures so as to maintain the sum of the motor speeds constant and a linear relationship between the motor torques. Current is supplied by a source Y, having a variable resistor R0, to the motor field windings P1-Pn, the currents in which may be controlled by resistors R1-Rn. Each motor is provided with a handle H connected in circuit with a switch S1-Sn such that only that motor is energized in position I, all motors in position II, the motors from M1 to that motor in position III and subsequent motors up to motor Mn in position IV.
