Abstract

1399849 Can ends CEBAL 6 April 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 16530/73 Heading B8D In a metal can end having a seaming flange 3 connected by a peripheral channel portion to a flat central portion 2, which is provided with a score-defined removable panel, the channel portion comprises in radial section an arcuate portion 4 having a radius of curvature of 0À5 to 1À2 mm. connected to the central portion by rectilinear and curved portions ab, be and cd and to the flange by straight portions 10 and 12, the angle X between portion 10 and a can end perpendicular being at the most 20 degrees and the angle between portions 10 and ab being in the range of 6 to 34 degrees. The construction is said to withstand pressures of 7 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> for a can end of thickness less than that of conventional can ends, dimensional examples being given. Curved portions be and cd are of different curvature. The can end may be of aluminium/ magnesium alloy, aluminium/magnesium/manganese alloy, steel, stainless steel, or iron.
