Abstract

1399617 Control of printers ING C OLIVETTI & C SpA 20 June 1972 28880/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division B6] In a control circuitry for an electrostatic printer wherein four print heads each comprising 7 recording styli are reciprocated across a recording medium, recording taking place while the heads traverse in both directions (see also Division B6), print clock pulses from a positionindicating photo-electric pulsing assembly (Figs. 12-14, not shown) pass to a 7-bit shift register, the output of which comprises one space pulse, five recording pulses to form characters on a 5 Î 7 matrix and a shift pulse entering at 7 to enable AND gate 215 or 223 according to the direction of traverse of the print heads, indicated by a flip-flop 213 switched by end-of-line pulses. The shift pulse calls a character out of 32-bit shift registers 191, in groups of six to store characters in 6-bit code and forming a one-line buffer 173, the called-out character code being decoded and operating the recording styli.
