Abstract

[Also in Division G1] A printing wheel for a typewriter, strip chart printing recorder or like printing machine comprises a number of numerals 11 disposed around the periphery of the wheel and a corresponding number of dot printing elements 12 spaced axially from the numerals, the printing surfaces of the dots being disposed further from the axis of rotation than the printing surface of the numerals. This arrangement enables the dots to be printed when required, without the accompanying numeral as shown in Fig. 4. The type-wheel 10 is mounted on a swinging printing frame 40 and has attached to it a cam 38 with an indentation 25 which in one position of the wheel registers with an interposer or spacing arm 26. When the arm is in the recess both the numeral 11 and the dot is printed while in other positions only the dot is printed. An adjustable sector 31 can be moved to bridge the recess when no numerals at all are required to be printed and the spacing arm can be swung completely away from the cam so that numerals are printed on every occasion. Inking-arrangements.-The type-wheel (10, Fig. 8) is inked with a pad on a wheel geared to it. If required, the pad may be divided into sections so that the numerals are printed in a multiple of colours.
