Abstract

1399495 Transportation system; steering vehicles JAPAN SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION OF MACHINE INDUSTRY T ISHII M IGUCHI and M KOSHI 17 Aug 1972 [19 Aug 1971 (3)] 38499/72 Headings B7L and B7H [Also in Division E1] A transportation system comprises vehicles 1 which travel on a track 3 and have a guide link 4 depending through a slot 5 into a channel beneath the track, the link being cranked to provide mounting for a pair of vertically offset wheels 6 which respectively contact a side wall of the channel, a U-shaped member 27 connected with the link being operable by a computer on the vehicle to contact either edge of a rail 25 at the bottom of the channel to guide the vehicle at a switch along a set path, the link being also connected to steer the vehicle wheels 10. Humps in the bottom of the channel raise the member 27 should it enter a region where two rails 25 join thus preventing it from becoming damaged. In a modification the member 27 is replaced by an element which can be made to abut one side or the other of a vertical rail positioned on the bottom of the channel to guide the vehicle. In a further modification a roller is provided at the end of the link 4 which occurs on the bottom surface of the channel. The link is normally held by a ratchet mechanism but may be lowered thereby to follow an increase in depth of the channel and thus a set path at a switch.
