Abstract
1399477 Concrete shuttering spacer S BURGI 5 June 1972 [3 June 1971] 26159/72 Heading E1S A shuttering spacer comprises a flat tie 1 having a central portion 11 and end portions 12, 13 with the boundaries therebetween being weakened, e.g. by notches 14; securing means, e.g. wedges 4, for fastening the tie between opposed shuttering panels 21; and inserts 6 of iron salt-resistant material, e.g. synthetic resin, which extend between the panels 21 and the central tie portion 11 and each have a slot to receive the tie, the slot being just wide enough to receive the tie at the end of the slot away from the panel, but wider at the end adjacent the panel. In use, the inserts 6 form cavities in the concrete around the end tie portions 12, 13, whereby the end portions may be broken off at the weakened boundaries by a suitable lever tool, and the inserts 6 remaining in the concrete are plugged. The tie 1 may have stamped out formations 15, 16 which further weaken the tie at the boundaries and also provide abutments to engage the inserts 6. As shown, wedges 4 pass through slots 121 at the ends of the tie and bear through channelsection bars 3 against the panels 21.
