Abstract
1399013 Sliding gate valve for molten metal USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 31 May 1972 [7 June 1971] 7033/75 Divided out of 1399011 Heading F4B A reciprocatary sliding gate for use in the valve mechanism described in the parent Specification comprises a refractory plate with a central turning opening and a refractory nozzle port extending from one side of the plate, the gate and nozzle being encased in metal except for the sliding face, and being symmetrical about two perpendicular planes passing through the axis of the turning opening. The sliding face and nozzle lining may be of harder and more erosion resistant refractory than the remainder of the gate. Since reciprocal gate nozzles normally wear unsymmetrically, the life of the gate may be lengthened by turning it after it has become partly worn.
