Abstract

1398958 Easy opening container ends CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 12 March 1973 [10 March 1972] 11777/73 Heading B8D [Also in Division B2] An easy opening can end has a guard band 23 permanently bonded to the chuck wall 14 to overlie a score line 17 which defines a removable end panel portion 18. The guard band comprises a hot melt adhesive. The can end is coated with a thermoplastic and/or thermosetting resin 16 and a release coating 25 is provided between the resin coating 16 and the hot melt adhesive band 23. The under surface of the end panel 15 may have a resin coating 30, a release coating 33 and a hot melt adhesive guard band 31 permanently bonded to the removable end panel portion 18 to underlie the score line 17. Specific examples of the thermoplastic and thermosetting resins, hot melt adhesives and release coatings are given.
