Abstract

1398949 Fuel injectors STANADYNE Inc and V D ROOSA 12 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 52448/73 Heading F1B A fuel injector comprises a tubular body 10, a valve chamber 14, and a pressure operable valve 16 spring-biased towards a valve seat 20 and having a discharge orifice 22, a valve guide 24 being provided with a cylindrical sleeve 58 which is in the flow-path of the fuel from an inlet 28 to the chamber 14 and which defines with the inner periphery 60 of the body 10 a restricted clearance 64, the width of which is less than the diameter of orifice 22. Particulate matter entrained in the fuel and of a size large enough to block orifice 22 is unable to pass through clearance 64 and is trapped by the edge 62 against which it is continually hammered by the pulsating fuel flow until reduced in size. A similar parallel flow-path 72, 76 is provided.
