Abstract

1398919 Hose reels; fluid supply POLY-GARD PRODUCTS Ltd 4 April 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55312/72 Heading B8M A hose reel of the type mounted for rotation on a fixed axis and having axial fluid feed comprises a fixed conduit 26 adapted at one end for connection to a source of fluid and extending into one side of the hub of the reel, and providing a journal bearing for rotation of the reel thereon, a sleeve 32 coaxial with the conduit 26 and secured to the end thereof within the hub, e.g. by screwthreads, and a T- piece having a first limb 38 extending through the sleeve 32 and rendered axially captive by deformation, e.g. by peening over at 40, but rotationally free relative thereto, a second limb 47 coaxial with the first limb 38 and the conduit 26 and extending to or through the opposite side of the hub, and a third limb 52 extending transversely of the limbs 38 and 47 and between the sides of the hub, the first and third limbs, 38 and 52, being hollow and forming a continuation of the conduit 26, and the limb 52 being adapted for connection to the hose, whereby fluid may be supplied to the hose during rotation of the reel. The reel is mounted on a stand 20 which may be free standing or mounted on a wall, and the stand is provided with a bush 24 in which the end of the conduit 26 is secured, the bush 24 being connected to a pipe 22 for supply of fluid to the conduit. The reel comprises flanges 10, 12 which may be in the form of discs or skeleton form, and a hub preferably composed of spaced longitudinally extending bars. The flange 12 has a central hub portion 14 rotatably mounted on the conduit 26. The other flange 10 has a central hub portion 16 secured to the second limb 47 of the T-piece by a screw 50. The first limb 38 is rotatably within the sleeve 32, leakage of fluid being prevented by 0-rings 42 and washer 44. The conduit 26 is preferably made of nylon.
