Abstract
1397334 Automatic control of vibration TIME DATA CORP 28 April 1972 [22 July 1971] 19948/72 Heading G3R A vibrating platform or means for producing a vibrating environment (e.g. using sound), for testing equipment, is driven by a random signal controlled by the system shown so that a specimen is subjected to vibration having a predetermined frequency spectrum. Vibration is detected by a device 101, e.g. an accelerometer, having a transfer function h(t); its output y(t) also has a noise factor h(t) and the specification explains mathematically how this is elimated by obtaining the "cross spectral density" from the Fourier transform of the input x(k) to the vibrator as well as its output y(k) and comparing this with the desired (reference) spectrum R(K) at 106. The result is multiplied with a random signal from a generator 109 and the product, after conversion by an inverse Fourier transform device III is used to drive the vibrator. The analogue measurement and drive signals are converted into digital form for processing, e.g. by a general purpose computer. Processing is not continuous but occurs in batches, termed "frames" Fig.5 (not shown). If the inherent delays in the system exceed the duration of a frame, the same input is repeated for one or more frames Fig.6, (not shown). A system which does not eliminate noise in the signals is also described but not claimed Figs. 1... 4 (not shown).
