Abstract
1397023 Drying paper M KANKAANPAA 16 March 1973 12859/73 Heading F4G A multiple cylinder paper drier is provided in which the paper 9 travels along a zig-zag path about rollers 3a, 3b, 4, 6, and supported on a foramous web 5. At a curve of the zig-zag path air is blown onto the paper 9 or one face thereof and means 8 adjacent the opposite face is provided for reducing the pressure thereat and thus facilitate passage of the blown air through the paper 9 and the web 5. As shown the rollers 3a and 3b are heated and the blown air is provided by heavy duty hot air blowing hoods 7 at each of the crests of the zig-zag path. The upper part of the path is defined by two suction rollers 4 and rollers 6. Paper is fed into the drier over a suction roll 1 and a suction box 2, the suction members 1, 2, 4 of the drier bringing the paper 9 into intimate contact with the web 5. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the upper part of the zig-zag path is defined by perforate rollers of the same diameter as the rollers 3a, 3b, each hood 7 being adjacent and partly surrounding the perforate rollers. Several drying stages may be provided.
