Abstract

1396928 Silver compound recovery EASTMAN KODAK CO 31 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971] 40347/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C3 and C7] Silver compounds are recovered from an aqueous gelatinous liquid containing emulsified Ag compounds, e.g. wash water from photographic emulsion manufacture, by mixing the liquid with an amino-acid forming enzyme which reacts with the gelatine to produce a peptide. The pH is adjusted to 2À5-4À2, preferably 3À5, to effect precipitation of the peptide and the associated Ag compounds. The precipitate may be passed to an incinerator where Ag is recovered as a silver-bearing ash. Suitable enzymes include trypsin, pepsin, pancreatin and ficin. The liquid is heated to 48-52‹ C. during the reaction of the enzyme.
