Abstract

1396668 Boots &c FORTUNA-WERKE MASCHINENFABRIK AG 13 Sept 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 42970/73 Heading A3B [Also in Division B3] A working tool, in particular for working leather uppers in the manufacture of shoes, includes a first rotating tool mounted on a tool spindle, and a second rotating tool supported or mounted by means of a resilient elastic element on the tool spindle or on a part thereof such that the working faces of the tools are capable of being brought close to one another and substantially simultaneously into working engagement with a workpiece. As described the first tool is formed as a pounding up tool and the second tool as a roughening tool. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) the first tool 1 is mounted on a hollow spindle 3 driven by gear 8 and has a working face 1a provided with balls 1b to form a pounding up tool. The second tool 2 is mounted on a spindle 10 and has a working face 2a provided the abrasive material 2b to form a roughening tool. The second tool 2 is rotated by a pin 19 engaging a bore 20 in the first tool 1 and is resiliently supported with respect to the first tool 1 by a spring 13. The initial compression of spring 13 can be adjusted by movement of end cap 14 in an internally threaded sleeve 16. In use the initial compression of spring 13 determines the extent of the roughening operation. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) the pounding up tool 23 is mounted on spindle 25 and the roughening tool 24 is mounted on an annular rubber ring 27 on the spindle 25. The roughening tool 24 is rotated by a pin 35 engaging a slot 36 in the pounding up tool 23. The initial compression of the rubber ring 27 can be adjusted by a split conical sleeve 28 and interchangeable spacer elements 29.
