Abstract

1396641 Ribbon spools REGENTROP & BERNARD KG 22 March 1973 13792/73 Heading B8M A spool for typewriter, calculator, accounting machine ribbon comprises two flanges 6 of synthetic plastics material, and a core 7 consisting exclusively of sheet metal, the core 7 having a pointed projection 72 for spiking one end of a ribbon to be wound on the spool. Each flange 6 is preferably moulded integrally with a spindle guide 62 stiffened by webs 67, a collar coaxial with the guide 62 for centring the flange relative to the core, and apertures 64 for engagement with transport pins on the respective machine. The core 7 is provided with lugs 71 which pass through slit-like apertures 65 in the flanges and are deformed to engage the outer surface of the flange, which may be recessed to accommodate the lugs. When the spool is assembled, the end of the ribbon is spiked on the projection 72 which is then deformed to lie in recess 73 provided in the opposite end of the core as shown. The core 7 may be provided with a nickel coating as by a plating process.
