Abstract
1395753 Radio-chemical analysis UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 14 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8433/72 Heading G1A Radio-active nuclides are analyzed by a detector connected to a multi-channel pulse height analyzer, the channels being progressively scanned and the counts converted to analogue signals which are progressively integrated to produce an output which is displayed against the channel numbers. As shown, Fig.3, a radio-chemical analyzer comprises a Li drifted Ge diode γ-ray detector 5 feeding a multi-channel pulse height analyzer having channel count stores 8. At the end of a measurement the stores are scanned to produce a sequential digital output on line 13 which is applied to a printer or plotter 2 and, via a D:A converter 15, an analogue output on line 16 which is applied to a graph plotter 4 either directly to produce a conventional spectrum plot or via an integrator 3 which produces a running total. Those portions of the plot produced from the output of the integrator having an increased slope represent the peaks of a normal spectrum plot and the area under these peaks can therefore be measured directly from the scale of the integrated plot. The constants of proportionality may be determined by measuring the area under one peak by a known method. A scintillation counter may be used as the detector 5.
