Abstract

1431445 Concurrently measuring the radioactivity level of several samples G D SEARLE & CO 26 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 14328/73 Heading G1A In an apparatus for determining concurrently the level of radio-activity of a set of samples, each sample of the set is placed in a corresponding counting well having a scintillation crystal 2 and a photo-detector 3, the outputs of each sample being amplified (4) and fed via pulse height analyzers 5 to pulse counters 8a (supplying a read-out 9) after a constant amount due to background radiation has been subtracted by subtracting means 6. The detector outputs may also be fed together to a summing device 7 where the total number of counts obtained in a fixed time may be compared by logic the circuitry shown with the total number accumulated in the same time period by a (set of) reference sample(s) inserted before the measurement or, alternatively, the time taken for the set of samples to accumulate a specific member is compared with the time taken for a reference set to achieve the same number. The resulting computed ratio may then be read off the read-out 9.
