Abstract
1395640 Coating compositions AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc 13 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 32841/72 Heading C4A [Also in Division D1] A surface coating composition having a pH of 7 or less comprises (a) 1 to 25 parts by weight of a fluorine-containing phosphate material having a specified formula, (b) 0À01 to 2 parts by weight of a chelating agent, (c) 1 to 10% by weight of a water-miscible organic solvent and (d) water. The components (a) used in the examples are (i) the diethanolamine salts of 1,1-dihydroperfluorocyclohexylmethyl esters of phosphoric acid and (ii) the diethanolamine salts of the perfluoroheptyl carbinol esters of phosphoric acid; the other suitable components (a) listed are F-[-C 6 F 10 -]-CH 2 OPO(OH) 2 , The chelating agent can be the disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or sodium hexametaphosphate. The solvent component (c) can be n-butanol or methyl ethyl ketone. The compositions used in the examples also include hydroxyethylated starch as a binder and methylpolysiloxane as a defoamer. The compositions can also contain colours, organic pigments, inorganic pigments, fillers and stearate salts as lubricants. The compositions are used for coating cellulosic packaging materials such as paper and cardboard to impart resistance to oil, grease, water and some organic solvents.
