1395582 Toy motor car chassis IDEAL TOY CORP 11 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 46817/ 72 Heading A6S A chassis 10 for a miniature coaster toy motor car, comprises a flat body metal diecasting 14 of heavy metal, as shown having transverse channels 26, 28 to receive axle housings 32 in a bearing plate 16, Fig 3 (shown inverted) secured to the body together wth an underplate 18, Fig 4. The bearing plate 16 is of a low friction material such as nylon, &c, while the underplate 18 is of the same heavy metal as the body 14. Pins 42 depending from the body diecasting extend through holes 44, 60 in the bearing plate 16 and underplate 18, the pins being glued, &c, within the holes or retained solely by friction. The wheels 22 may be of nylon, and are either fast with or journalled for rotation upon axles 20, Fig 5. The ends 54 of the axles 20 are either bent over, as shown, or formed as simulated hub caps (56), Fig 6 (not shown). The rear wheels 24 are of larger diameter than the front wheels 22, and the rear channel 28 is proportionally deeper than the front channel 26, so that the car is level when placed upon a flat supporting surface. Recesses 48 in the axle housings 32 are so dimensioned as to allow slight vertical movements of the axles 20, and thus accommodate bumps in the supporting surface. The channels 26, 28 may be deeper than the outside height of the axle housings 32, to allow further slight vertical movements. The chassis 10 is removably mounted within a toy motor car body 12, and may be readily attached in another such body. In an alternative form, the recesses 48 are formed entirely within the thickness of the bearing plate 16, and the body 14 has a flat underside without the recesses 26, 28.
