Abstract

1,097,556. Toy land vehicle steering means. LESNEY PRODUCTS & CO. Ltd. Nov. 10, 1966 [Nov. 19, 1965], No. 49235/65. Heading A6S. A toy or model land vehicle is supported by at least two wheel-carrying axles, one of which is angularly displaceable about its midpoint in a plane parallel to that of the base of the toy and includes manually operable axleengaging-and-adjusting means the setting of which determines the angular settings of the wheels relative to the rest of the toy. As shown in Figure 1, the adjusting means 11 may be formed in one piece of synthetic plastics material and may include arched portion 12 engaging the front axle near its end, a connecting portion 14 and an operating portion 17 with handle 18 that projects laterally from the toy. The operating portion 17 may include downward projection 20 of inverted T-shaped cross-section {seen end on in Figure 1 so that the T-shape is not apparent), the upright of which is frictionally engaged in slot 19 so that the operating means tends to remain in any pre-selected setting. One end of the slot 19 is enlarged at 21 so that the cross-bar of the "T" can be entered through the slot when the toy is assembled. A resilient strip 23 (in Figure 4) may extend longitudinally along the toy, to form a suspension, which may be symmetrical about its fixed mid-point, each end being a raised platform 27 from each of which depend two vertical plates 31 that contact the axle at opposite sides of the two pins 8 about which the axle 6 pivots.
