1395471 Test records for aligning magnetic heads M L LJUDMIRSKY G M FORSHTATOR and Y S SHKUROVICH 23 March 1973 14255/73 Heading G5R A test signal 8 is recorded on a track on a tape or other magnetic record 1, the track having two portions 4, 5 of which the edges nearer to an edge 6 of the record 1 are mutually laterally displaced so that the distance a from the record edge 6 to the track portion 4 is equal to the minimum permissible distance from the edge 6 to the further end of the operative gap (7), Fig. 2 (not shown), of a magnetic head, the corresponding distance b for the track portion 5 being equal to the maximum such permissible distance. The head is laterally aligned to produce an output from track portion 4 but not from portion 5.
