Abstract

1395433 Pyridylaminomethylene malonic acid derivatives DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 30 May 1973 [7 June 1972] 25864/73 Heading C2C Pyridylaminomethylene malonic acid derivatives are obtained by reacting in a single stage and in the absence of acetic anhydride and zinc chloride at 60‹ to 160‹ C. an optionally alkylsubstituted aminopyridine with a malonic acid derivative (e.g. a diester or a cyanoacetic acid ester) and a stoichiometric excess of an orthoformic acid ester. The process is exemplified by the reaction wherein R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are the same or different alkyl groups and R may also be a hydrogen atom. The preferred aminopyridine: malonic acid derivative: orthoformic acid ester molar ratio is from 1 : 1 : 2 to 1 : 1À5 : 5 and the reaction is preferably effected under superatmospheric pressure, the alcohol formed in the reaction generally being removed by distillation. Examples describe the reaction of 2-aminopyridine and 2-amino-6-methyl-pyridine with malonic acid diethyl ester and orthoformic acid triethyl ester, of 2-amino-6-methylpyridine with cyanoacetic acid ethyl ester and orthoformic acid triethyl ester and of 2-amino-6-methylpyridine with malonic acid dimethyl ester and orthoformic acid trimethyl ester. The products are bacteriostatic.
