Abstract

1395095 Solvent cleansing composition T ORII and M WATANABE 19 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7977/73 Heading C5D Compositions for removing oily substances from surfaces comprise (A) at least two of the specified chlorinated hydrocarbons and (B) 3% to 12% of the total weight of the composition of a nonionic polyoxyethylene type of surfactant. The chlorinated hydrocarbons are selected from methylene chloride, perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene and carbon tetrachloride. The surfactant may be a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, a polyoxyethylene alkylphenol ether or a polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester. Preferably, the nonionic surfactant consists of 70% to 75% by weight of polyoxyethylene phenolether having an HLB number of from 12 to 13 and 30% to 25% of a polyoxyethylene alkylphenol ether having an HLB number of 17 to 19. The compositions are intended to be used as such or diluted with water for removing oily substances from the surfaces of articles, roads, floors and the inner surfaces of tanks and for dispersing oil floating on water surfaces.
