Abstract
1395074 Dimethyltin thioesters CINCINNATI MILACRON CHEMICALS Inc 1 Sept 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40706/72 Heading C2J [Also in Division C3] Dimethyltin bis-(octyl-thioalkanoates) having two or three carbon atoms in the alkanoate group, the octyl radical being either iso-octyl or 2-ethylhexyl, and containing not more than 0À5 weight per cent of the corresponding trimethyltin thioalkanoate as an impurity are prepared by producing (CH 3 ) 2 SnCl 2 having not more than 0À5 weight per cent of (CH 2 ) 2 SnCl as impurity by adding SnCl 4 to impure (CH 2 ) 2 SnCl 2 in an amount sufficient to react with the said impurity and heating until the amount of (CH 3 ) 3 SnCl present is not more than 0À5 weight per cent and reacting the (CH 2 ) 2 SnCl 2 thus produced with the appropriate octyl thioalkonoate. The compounds are useful as stabilizers for halogen-containing resins, especially PVC.
