Abstract

139,505. Fritze, H. Oct. 30, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Lighting and heating systems. - The current which may be supplied from a generator of limited output is adjusted so that as each of a number of unipolar or multipolar burners for welding or soldering is put into circuit the output limit is raised by that required to supply one burner. The generator G has an additional separately excited field winding V with a resistance in series, equal sections W of which are short-circuited as each burner is placed in circuit. This may be effected by main or shunt-current relays in the burner or generator circuits or by current or potential transformers acting directly or through relays. A contact switch upon the handie of the burner or outside the burner operated mechanically or electrically may be used to effect the variation of output limit. As shown in the Figure, a relay R1, R2 with a coil in series with the burner B<1>, B<2>, short-circuits the resistance section W related to it when the welding arc is struck.
