Abstract

1395034 Semi-conductor devices PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 March 1972 [20 March 1971 18 June 1971] 49290/74 Divided out of 1395032 Heading H1K The subject matter of this Specification is identical to that of Specification 1,395,033 but the claims are directed to a photo-transistor in which the emitter-base junction 55 is forwardbiased by the absorption of radiation (e.g. visible or infra-red light), and in which the emitter region 44 comprises a relatively highly resistive zone 48 defining the emitter-base junction 55 and a less resistive zone 47 spaced from the base region 45, at least over most of the area of the junction 55, by the zone 48. This arrangement within the emitter region improves the emitter efficiency.
