Abstract

1394820 Making finger rings JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 12 May 1972 [13 May 1971] 14781/71 Heading A3H [Also in Division B3] A method of making a composite article e.g. a finger ring, comprises forming a master pattern of the article, forming a first mould from the master pattern, locating in the mould a pre shaped member, casting a thermosoftening materialin the remaining part of the mould, removing the so-formed combination of the pre shaped member and thermosoftening material from the mould, locating said combination in a second mould, heating the second mould to melt the thermosoftening material and draining said material from the mould, and casting a second material in the mould to form the composite article. The preshaped member may be made of white gold, the second material may be yellow gold and the thermosoftening material may be a wax. After removal from the mould, the inner face of the ring may be machined, the ring is hallmarked, and then the outer face of the ring may be machined.
