Abstract
1394628 Hair curlers R CARUSO 5 July 1973 32160/73 Heading A4V A curler assembly comprises a hollow core 12 provided with an axial opening at one end, radial openings 14 in its cylindrical walls and end hubs 16, 18. A porous pad 20 surrounds the core, acting as a distributer for low pressure steam which passes radially outward from the centre of the core. Rims 22, 24 attached to the hubs have openings 26 formed by a plurality of radial ribs. A semicylindrical shield (28) Fig.1 (not shown) for partly enclosing the core and pad, has an outer layer 32 and two spacers 30 attached to the outer layer. Hair (52) Figs.2, 3 and 4 (not shown) is wound around the pad and the shield is applied by pushing it radially inward over the wound hair, jaws 36, 38 of the shield being sufficiently flexible. A clip 40 has one leg 42 inserted into an opening in one hub to maintain the curler assembly relationship. Steam is introduced to the hollow core by a nozzle (46) from conduit (48) via a control valve (50) Fig.5 (not shown). The core and hubs are made from one piece of plastics or aluminium. The porous pad is a foam polymeric plastic and the shield is a lightweight low heat conductivity material such as polyvinyl Chlorid or polystyrene.
